Remove Silence, made simple
Shorten a recording by removing quiet sections that meet your settings. The detector checks short windows across all channels. A quiet window is removed only when it belongs to a gap at least as long as the minimum silence duration.
Frequently asked questions
Can this remove background noise?
No. It removes quiet time spans rather than separating speech from noise. Constant noise may prevent a gap from being detected.
What does the threshold mean?
Windows whose peak level is below the chosen threshold are treated as quiet. A higher threshold detects more quiet audio.
What is retained padding?
It keeps a short amount of audio at each side of a detected gap so speech is less abrupt.
Which browsers and files are supported?
Use a recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Common MP3 and WAV files work best; other formats depend on browser and codec support. Source audio is limited to 50 MB in total, video to 150 MB / 6 minutes, and decoded audio to 32 million samples. Large files may exceed available device memory. The first MP3 export or video extraction downloads an approximately 32 MB processing engine.
